Arise Exhibition brings Sally Wilson’s intricate world to The Hive Gallery

Ocean Grove artist Sally Wilson steps into the spotlight with Arise, her first solo exhibition exploring the delicate balance between freedom, structure and the spaces in between.

A recurring symbol throughout the exhibition is the owl, representing memory, wisdom and perception. Through ink, charcoal and carefully placed crayon highlights, Wilson creates works that move between abstraction and detail, capturing moments of tension, movement and quiet reflection on paper.

Known for her creative versatility, Wilson has built an impressive career across multiple disciplines. An internationally acclaimed opera singer, she has performed across Germany, the United States, Italy, Poland, Hong Kong and Australia, before making Ocean Grove her home. Alongside her husband, pianist Dr Mark Kruger, she continues to bring high-calibre performances to the Bellarine through the Bellarine Classics series.

Wilson is also the author and illustrator of the LaLa Chronicles children’s book series, with uplifting stories that combine words, music and illustration. Now, with Arise, she turns her focus to visual art, offering audiences a glimpse into another side of her creative practice.

A thoughtful exploration of contrast, movement and imagination, Arise marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for an artist with plenty more to share. The exhibition opened over the weekend on 18 July, and will run until 2 August. Be sure to see it while it lasts.
