For fifty years, Tina Arena has devoted her life to music. Her tenacity, Sicilian passion and fierce  resilience have carried her through extraordinary career highs and devastating lows. From  industry rejection, Tina rose to history-making success with her second album, fell again, then  rose once more in France. The unstoppable Tina Arena has now released 25 albums and sold  more than eight million records worldwide.

Tina remains one of Australia’s most respected vocalists, but her success comes with scars.  She is a Phoenix, continually reinventing herself. An Icarus figure who flew too close to the sun  and emerged determined to manage her career on her own terms. A sister, a daughter, a  mother who puts family first. In her own words: “I’m just Pina. I am who I am.”  

Most candid behind closed doors, we meet Tina in the present day, speaking intensely and  directly to camera, with flashes of dry humour. She is self-deprecating, strong yet fragile. In  France, we see her nursing a head cold while making a cup of tea. “There’s no smoke and  mirrors here,” she says. Tina’s face is naturally aged and deeply expressive, revealing both the  pain she has endured and the depth of her conviction, all in the name of music.  

As an artist, she is demanding of herself, a consummate professional dedicated to her craft and  wherever the journey may take her, but she has also lived a turbulent personal life. As a little  girl, Tina was told what to do, and she spent the rest of her life rebelling against it. Trying to find  herself, find her voice, overcome the stigma of being a child television star; battle tall poppy  syndrome, imposter syndrome and misogyny; reinvent herself as both an artist and a woman,  time and time again.  

She has lived and worked in Australia, London and France, and now, in 2026, she returns home  to Melbourne, Australia. A life in music has been taxing, but it has also been filled with joy,  excitement, love and adventure.  

Throughout it all, Tina has used her voice – her gift – to move, inspire and share her story with  audiences around the world. She has also used it to speak up, and that has not always made  her likeable. Her song lyrics capture where she is emotionally at every point in her life.  

Now, at 58, turning 59 this year, she has earned her place in music history. Tina says she has  finally come to like the woman she is. Through music, she has healed herself. This is her story,  in her own words.
