The seminal album will be played in full!

Cat Power will return to Australia and New Zealand in 2026 for a run of special performances, including a highly anticipated show at Geelong’s Costa Hall, as part of a wider national tour.

The tour marks a rare opportunity to experience Chan Marshall in full command of one of contemporary music’s most singular catalogues, with each performance built around the emotional core of her 2006 landmark album The Greatest.

Two decades on, The Greatest remains a defining work in her discography. Recorded in Memphis with members of the Hi Rhythm Section, the album channels the language of Southern soul while remaining unmistakably her own. It is spare, deliberate and unflinching, its power drawn from restraint rather than force.

This anniversary tour presents The Greatest in full, alongside selections from across Marshall’s career, offering audiences a chance to revisit the album in a live setting that heightens its stillness and emotional clarity.

Across its running order, The Greatest traces grief, longing and endurance with remarkable economy. Tracks such as ‘Living Proof’ and the title song carry a quiet intensity that has only deepened with time, shaped by understatement and control.

To mark the 20th anniversary, The Greatest will be reissued on 10 July via Matador Records, featuring a limited-edition reprint of the original pink foil cover and a pink vinyl pressing.

The Australian and New Zealand tour spans major cities and select regional centres, with Geelong included as a key stop, reflecting both the scale of the run and Marshall’s enduring connection with local audiences.

Few artists sustain presence with such minimal excess. These performances place the focus squarely on the material itself, returning The Greatest to its original emotional register while allowing it to resonate anew in the present.

Tickets will go live on Friday 19 June from 9am local time, with presale from Wednesday 17 June, 9am local time. All ticketing information can be found here.
