Hailing from the same part of the world as Van Morrison, if there was a man to cover his music and harness the same emotions behind it, it would be Joe Creighton, and he’s doing just that in his ‘Into the Mystic’ show coming to Ballarat.

This isn’t a rant of sorts, but more of a plea to think of your friendly giants when you’re busy designing clothes for the masses.

“There’s just something about it. Of the process of taking the record out of the jacket and putting it on the turntable and putting the needle on the groove and there you go,” Sweet Little Hi-Fi owner and vinyl enthusiast Shane Godfrey says.

From having their first moments rehearsing in a paint store in Geelong, local lads Toxicon are back to launch their debut LP. We had a chat with the band as a collective on what to expect next, fond memories of the BC and crowd surfing to the bar.

Most of us can attribute much of the music of our childhood to ABBA, and that’s a damn good thing. Jessica Sankey spent much of her younger years listening to the classics blasted from her mum’s car stereo, and she’s since changed that passion for the band into performing as Frida in one of the greatest tribute bands around.

Made up of a collective of some of Geelong and the region’s most well-known creatives (Frank & Dolly’s happens to be run by a few band members), The Evening Cast are back in action with an album on the way and a performance set for this year’s food event, FEAST.

In the Stone and Wood Brewing Co world things are done a little bit differently. Items are foraged for in their surrounding environment, and in the instance of the Festival of the Stone tour, the hops, malt, yeast and water will be collected as the team travel down the east coast with a party each stop of the way.

In what will arguably be the biggest and best double-header in recent Australian heavy music history, metalcore favourites Northlane and In Hearts Wake are hitting the road this winter to bring us the Equinox Tour.

Each year the National Celtic Festival brings some of the world’s best Celtic performers to the coastal town of Portarlington. Held from June 10-13, the first line up for the event is officially here.

While not much has changed with her legal situation with Sony Music and producer Dr Luke, EDM maestro Zedd (the man behind ‘Break Free’, featuring a lead vocal by Ariana Grande) has reached out to Kesha with an offer to collaborate on a new single – and it looks like a goer! It should see the light of day this year and fans are super excited! This will be the first thing she’s featured on since ‘Timber’ with Pitbull, and that was EPIC! Something tells me Kesha’s on her way to a bigger, brighter career…

Over the past few weeks there has been considerable talk about whether or not blues and rock music has a place in the Australian music scene.

The Semiautos release 1967: The Lost Recordings isn’t something you hear much of these days.

“We’re pretty adamant now that we don’t walk on unless they’ve got plenty of security down the front,” explains Luke Boerdam after telling me the things he’s seen happen from the stage, some of which involve broken arms, “And we make sure to brief them that people don’t get kicked out if they’re in trouble – you just help ’em out.”

In past gigs, Narana has hosted such icons as Xavier Rudd and the Black Keys back in 2006 before they became big-time names. If the pattern serves itself true, it’s likely the performers at this year’s Narana Unplugged event (following on from the inaugural event last year) will become even bigger names in a few years time. So best get onto them now.

Japanese punk rock festival Punkspring is almost upon us, and what an interesting line up it has. On the one hand, we have heavy hitters like Face To Face, Sum 41 and The Misfits, and on the other hand, we have acts like Simple Plan and Australia’s very own Tonight Alive. Hmmmm… Yuck. I wonder if they’re still playing RATM’s ‘Killing In The Name Of’ in their set!

Who would have thought Illy would turn out to be such a survivalist? He has earned a respected place in the echelons of Aussie hip hop, often hailed as our intelligent rapper for songs that aren’t afraid to carry a political message or speak to some of the more troubling issues facing society today.

At first glance Luke Warm Sex looks like yet another television series where a comedian takes it upon themselves to explore an area of interest to them (and hopefully the rest of us). John Safran remains the master of the form in Australia, though it’s been a while since he’s done any television work, while in recent years Judith Lucy has tackled both religion and being a woman in two ABC series.

Twerking isn’t something just Miley does for a little bit of attention to her nether regions, it’s actually a great form of exercise and a whole lot of fun. Ladies (and gents) it’s time to start flexing those muscles like you never have before, we had a chat with Katii Slater who has a class to show you how.

Things aren’t off to a flying start with Sarah Blasko. The fault is entirely mine, given Blasko herself is as friendly and open as they come.
