Punk! #621

This Blink 182 business is getting a little bit silly. Tom Delonge has reached out to the band via social media to say that he’d love to be back in the picture some day. Interesting.

For 35 years Mildura have shared with locals, travellers and visitors the best food, wine and jazz the region has to offer. It’s been a long and successful run and things don’t seem to be slowing down, in fact, they’re busier than ever.

Guards of May: Future Eyes

Alternative rock really is a broad genre. If you’re not too fussy with your definition — and I don’t think too many people are — it covers a huge range of artists; you can theoretically lump in everyone from Birds of Tokyo to grungier stuff like Stone Temple Pilots. Because of that wide range, it can prove to be quite difficult to nail down what fits in alt rock or not. Chances are, if it fits in alt rock, it probably has its own genre somewhere. When it comes to artists like Guards of May, however, I can’t help but feel that the genre is a perfect fit.

The Laudanum Project: Grand Guignol Automaton

Think of your most graphic dream, your worst nightmare perhaps, and chances are it’s still not as vivid and evading as the story-telling by theatre group The Laudanum Project. We had a chat with Nick Ravenswood, one of the main men behind the group.

The Delta Riggs

Five years on and The Delta Riggs show no sign of slowing down. Sure, they’ve had their ups and downs like most, but The Delta Riggs have forged their own iconic path in the music industry; self-producing psychedelic, rock infused, slash hip hop tracks and playing to thousands of people with the big dogs. Answering the phone on a cracking day in Sydney, Michael ‘Monte’ Tramonte likes to call the band ‘anti-genre’, expressing how stoked he is that their fans have followed them through what Monte calls a ‘sonic shift’.

Ballarat Cabaret Festival

At times theatre can be misunderstood. Some people don’t get it, but more common than not, it’s because they’ve never really given it a go. Wanting to break down these barriers, as well as present something during their quieter season, Her Majesty’s Theatre is bringing the theatre to the people in the Ballarat Cabaret Festival.

Coheed and Cambria

New York natives Coheed and Cambria are set to release their first non-concept album next month.

Tim Wheatley: Cast of Yesterday

Tim Wheatley has just released his new album Cast of Yesterday, and right from the start of the album, the album is a bunch of songs that will transport you to another time. Recorded at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne with Paul Mckercher behind the controls, Wheatley has definitely created an album that should feature on best of the year album lists. The vocals are slick and smooth and the storytelling is top notch stuff.

The Waifs

A spontaneous decision to see Australia and it’s most honest, raw form soon lead to the creation of The Waifs. Josh Cunningham, Vikki Thorn and Donna Simpson set off in a van across the country, unknowingly beginning a trip that would soon take them to win multiple ARIA awards, gain platinum records and most importantly, last as a band.

Coin Banks

Of 10 new tours announced each week, chances are only one or two visit a regional town. Living in a regional city at times may seem like a sacrifice to seeing big-name bands, but as Coin Banks has quickly discovered, the fans in those regional areas give back 110 per cent regardless of how many times they’ve been missed.
