November 29, 1969. That’s the day music changed forever. That’s when Black Sabbath appeared on John Peel’s Top Gear radio program, performing ‘NIB’, ‘Behind The Wall of Sleep’ and the ominous, devilish song that started it all, ‘Black Sabbath’. In the 47 years since, Black Sabbath has done it all: blockbuster tours, epoch-defining albums, rejuvenating line-up changes, reunions and rebirths.

Australia is a great place to live, no question. But it’s also an exceedingly tough environment for original bands wanting to make a real go of things. For any number of well-documented reasons – our geographic isolation, our small population spread out over a massive land mass, governmental indifference, and the general public’s fixation on TV talent shows – bands often need to pack up and relocate in order to fulfil their commercial potential. With their notoriety in Europe exploding over the last few years, it’s a decision that Melbourne’s Mammoth Mammoth currently face.

A pain that has been slightly tempered by a Bingham starting his own family.

New York based act MS MR vocalist Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow are another fine example of this rare occurrence. After meeting at the renowned Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, the pair became fast friends and have become virtually inseparable ever since.
