Most of us can attribute much of the music of our childhood to ABBA, and that’s a damn good thing. Jessica Sankey spent much of her younger years listening to the classics blasted from her mum’s car stereo, and she’s since changed that passion for the band into performing as Frida in one of the greatest tribute bands around.

In past gigs, Narana has hosted such icons as Xavier Rudd and the Black Keys back in 2006 before they became big-time names. If the pattern serves itself true, it’s likely the performers at this year’s Narana Unplugged event (following on from the inaugural event last year) will become even bigger names in a few years time. So best get onto them now.

Having recently help change legislation around all-age and under-age gigs, launched the Melbourne Music City App and advocated and welcomed the introduction of the Agent of Change principle to protect venues from noise complaints, Music Victoria are easily one of the big names in advocating the safety of music venues and musicians in the state.

It seems as if there are frequently new and upcoming Australian rock bands, however, it also sadly seems like a lot don’t last. One of the biggest bands to distinguish themselves and defy this is definitely Melbourne four-piece British India; who since their inception in 2004 have demolished the Australian festival circuit and released five full length LPs only gathering a larger fan base after each one.
