Vallis IGA Hamlyn Heights: A Community Supermarket Built on Quality and Connection

Established as part of the Independent Grocers of Australia network, Vallis IGA combines the convenience of a well-stocked supermarket with the personalised service that only a family-run business can offer. At the heart of the business is owner Frank Valenti, a long-standing and respected independent grocer with deep roots in the Geelong region with family ties to both the Hamlyn Heights and Highton stores. Frank is known for his hands-on approach and commitment to quality retailing. His focus on customer service, fresh food and community engagement has helped shape the strong local reputation of both stores.

The supermarket’s journey has not been without challenges. In March 2019, a deliberately lit fire devastated the original store, forcing the community to watch a familiar local institution go up in flames. Determined to rebuild, the Valenti family as long-time owners of the store, secured property on Vines Road and launched plans to reconstruct a new, full-size supermarket on the same footprint.

By late 2023 and into early 2024, these efforts came to fruition with the completion of a refreshed, modern building designed by Peter Harvey & Co and built by Lyons Construction. The new store preserves its local charm while offering improved layouts, a dedicated deli and fresh produce area, and an in-store bakery producing fresh bread and baked goods daily. The deli has become a standout feature of the rebuilt store, offering a world-class selection of meats, smallgoods and an extensive range of premium cheeses imported from around the world. Carefully curated varieties from Europe and other renowned cheese-producing regions have made the deli a destination for food lovers seeking quality and choice.

Beyond groceries, Vallis IGA + Liquor forms part of the vibrant Vines Road retail strip, a neighbourhood focal point that includes specialty shops, services and public transport access.
