Let’s not let another art institution’s mission be cut short!
Having changed its name just over a year ago to reflect their artistic and business direction, Liminal Gallery & Lab has been dealt a bit of a blow. The small arts organisation has been navigating the tough economic climate, with rising operational costs and slower winter trade resulting in the gallery requiring a funding pump up.
Their plea to stay open comes with a price tag of $23,000 and a deadline of six weeks to raise it. The money will go towards the rent and insurance of the Ryrie Street arts house, allowing breathing space for the directors, Corey and Harriet, to determine their next moves and plan for the future of the space.
As per usual the Geelong arts community have jumped on board to help, and now the invitation is open to you to lend a hand!

Liminal Gallery & Lab has become a home for artists, photographers, musicians and the wider Geelong community — a place where creativity thrives and connection grows. This includes the award-winning Lucinda Goodwin who only moved into her space a few month back, and was our first In The Studio artist to take us through her inspired space. Since opening their doors under the rebranded name, the central Geelong gallery space has hosted countless exhibitions, workshops and events, supported emerging artists, and provided a platform for creativity that would otherwise go unseen. Their most recent Liminal Art Prize supported the artistic output of creatives in the region with over $9000 in prizes awarded to budding artists.
Right now Liminal is looking to the future of the business and the urgent funds required to continue. They’ve opted for a raffle to entice donations and support from the community. With artwork being donated from artists across the region, including a work from internationally renowned Australia artist Rone, items will be raffled off. Tickets are $20 each, $50 for three and $100 for seven, allowing you to get your hands on a masterpiece for less than the usual retail price, whilst putting money toward the existence of the gallery space.
To raise the urgent funds needed, we’re holding a Liminal Raffle — and we’re thrilled to announce that internationally renowned Australian artist Rone is among the generous artists donating work! Raffle tickets are just $20 each, $50 for 3, or $100 for 7 — every ticket brings us closer to securing Liminal’s future and ensuring that Geelong continues to have a thriving creative hub.
Requiring a minimum of 1000 tickets to keep the Liminal dream alive, every ticket, every artwork and every contribution from community helps.
The final call out for artists to donate work finishes today 3pm Thursday 23 October. The raffle will be drawn on Saturday 25 October between 12–2pm.
