As Geelong slides further into summer, Astray Bar is doing what it does best: leaning into the fun, turning up the flavour and giving locals even more reason to stray down Little Malop Street. Already known for its offbeat charm and cat-loving personality, the bar is entering the warmer months with a refreshed energy that feels tailor made for balmy nights and spontaneous midweek catch ups.

Over the past year, Astray has cemented itself as one of the city’s most playful yet polished venues. The sleek fit out is softened by feline artwork, the beloved Wall of Whiskers and a sense that nothing here is too precious. It is the kind of place where personality leads, but quality always follows. That balance is exactly what keeps the bar feeling fresh.
This summer, Astray is doubling down on value without compromising its edge. Midweek has officially levelled up with $10 margarita pizzas landing as a new crowd pleaser, designed for easy dinners, casual dates or the kind of unplanned nights that turn into late ones. Happy hour has also expanded, now welcoming craft beers into the fold at just $7 a pint, while the iconic house cat beer proudly remains $6. It is generous, considered, and very Astray.
Behind the bar, the cocktail menu has been refined and refreshed, with margaritas firmly in the spotlight. Expect a playful line up of new flavoured margs alongside Orange Perfection, a bright, delightfully refreshing cocktail that feels destined to become a summer favourite. It is sunshine in a glass, best enjoyed slowly, then ordered again.
Music is also stepping into focus, with Astray kicking off a new Sunday night program this coming Sunday 25 January. From 6pm, the bar will host Ian “Dicko” Dixon alongside Harry Morrison, bringing live music into the space as the weekend gently winds down. Pizza specials will be rolling, drink specials will drop closer to the date, and the vibe promises to be relaxed, social and just the right amount of chaotic.

Add in the venue’s much loved karaoke nights, rotating local beers, and a crowd that never takes itself too seriously, and it is clear Astray has hit a confident stride. This is a bar that evolves without losing its soul.
For summer sessions, midweek margaritas or Sunday night soundtracks, Astray Bar continues to prove that the best nights out are the ones that feel a little bit astray.
