A huge two-day Gluten-Free event is coming to Geelong

Calling all coeliac, gluten-intolerant, and gluten-free folk of Victoria- there's a food event specifically for you!

Let’s be real – dietary requirements shouldn’t be a restriction. Whether it’s for medical reasons or a lifestyle decision, gut health is just as important as physical and mental health. Gluten and feeling gluggy can go hand in hand for some, for others there are more extreme bodily reactions. It’s part of the reason that there has been a move towards going gluten free. Outside of being coeliac, 12% of Australians are choosing a life without gluten and those figures are on the rise.

If you’re already part of the Gluten Free community, or you’re leaning towards the lifestyle, here’s some good news – there’s an entire event dedicated to you!

The Gluten Free Lifestyle Show returns to Geelong this month. Taking over Deakin University Waterfront Campus across the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March, the Gluten Free Lifestyle Show is a place where food choices are made easy.

Delivered by the Gluten Free Cook, Australia’s online Gluten Free Lifestyle Community, the two day event is much more than some market stalls. It’s a space for the gluten free to thrive with leading food vendors, exhibitors, nutritionists and health practitioners offering up their wisdom, and celebrity chefs taking you inside their recipe books.

It stems from the organisers, Matt and Christine Monaghan’s personal journeys with navigating the gluten-free life. Using their own experience and partnering it with their over 20 year background in event delivery across multiple sectors in the Geelong region, the Gluten Free Lifestyle Event captures the same vibrance of a live music event or sports showcase – this time with full access to food for all. The food vendor tour takes you to all parts of the globe including Columbian, Jamaican, and the at times dreaded Italian cuisine, all made using gluten-free ingredients. No more avoiding pasta and pizza to save the stomach, this is a safe space.

The vendors are a range of small batch businesses, regional producers and tastemaker names in the gluten free community, allowing you to take home some goods to try your own recipes. Locals know Geelong Gluten Free Bakery but there is also arlo & co Coffee, Gut Health Group, Three Horn Mead, Chocolate in a Bottle, Thermomix, Geelong Region Olives, Cheeky Rascal Cider, Gionvannis Gelato, Basile Imports, Simply Lentils, Lardass Butter, Turmerix, Good Food Grazing, Daylesford Cider, Puff Fairy Floss, Imbue Distillery, Lacteeze, Taste Jamaica, OMG! Decadent Donuts, Mama Melisse, and so many more. Be sure to grab a brownie from Bellarine Brownie Company, or a delicious treat from Glazed Gluten Free Bakery.

As you enjoy the most delicious gluten free foods, be entertained by local musicians including the self-proclaimed human jukebox Don Fisher, and accordionist Lucy.

Hang out at the Gluten Free Cook Lifestyle Zone, which boasts a massive program of live activity including a standout interactive cooking demonstration from renowned celebrity chef, Bart Beek. The International Executive Chef for Everdure by Heston Blumenthal, Beek has been involved in the hospitality industry since 1972, and was trained at the famous Cordon Bleu school in Paris. He works tirelessly to champion seasonal, locally sourced produce and focuses on creating pure deliciousness by using cutting-edge culinary methods and techniques. He is a standout addition to the event, hosting three interactive cooking demonstrations each day of the event, at 9.45am , 11.30am, and 1.30pm respectively. Crystal Dumais at Arancini 4 All kicks off the sessions for each day, and a surprise presenter will pop up at 12.45pm both days to lead a demonstration.

Across at the wellness stage, hear health insights from leading nutritionists and health care practitioners including Accredited Practising Dietitian and Founder of Gut Health Group, Nicole Marie Mott. There will also be a surprise guest on this stage appearing on both days.

The event is not just for the big kids, but for the whole family. This year the Gluten Free Lifestyle Show will have a Kids, Family and Entertainment zone. In the kids zone, have your face painted. There are also interactive, family-friendly activities to experience throughout the exhibition space.

It’s a huge weekend of food, education, and lifestyle celebration in the gluten-free space. Oh and the first 1000 people to enter each day receive a free Gluten Free Cook show bag so get in early!
