If there’s one thing the Surf Coast does well, it’s community – and nowhere embodies that spirit more than the iconic Aireys Pub. Perched proudly on the Great Ocean Road since 1904, the beloved venue has survived fires, closures and even a close call with developers after its doors shut in 2011. Thanks to current owners Tim Wood and Phil Johnson – plus a determined crew of locals who rallied to save it – the pub was wrestled back into community hands. Housing estate avoided. Local tragedy averted. Legend secured.

But Aireys Pub isn’t just a pub. Step past its modest coastal façade and you’re hit with a sprawling hub of good food, cold beer and some of the region’s best live music energy. Think three expansive dining spaces, a sun-drenched beer garden, a proper outdoor stage that has hosted everyone from emerging locals to touring heroes, and their in-house brewery SALT Brewing Co. turning out craft drops made entirely with Australian ingredients. When the boys discovered most of Australia’s big-name breweries were foreign-owned, they doubled down on doing it differently – keeping it local, independent and seriously delicious.
It’s exactly this mix of heart, community focus and top-tier events that makes Aireys Pub the perfect home for their next big moment: Rock the Beanie, a full-day live music fundraiser for Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.
Happening Saturday 6 December from 2pm, Rock the Beanie is set to transform Aireys into a summer-soaked celebration of music, mateship and meaningful impact. Free to enter but donation encouraged, punters get an entire afternoon and evening of live music across both the indoor and outdoor stages – a rolling lineup of local talent soundtracking a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for brain cancer research. You have South Atlas, Twin Flame, Blue Earth, Atomic Entourage, Riflebirds and more taking to the stage to support a worthy cause.
Expect the full Aireys treatment: cold SALT Brewing Co. pints, great food flowing from the kitchen, and that signature Surf Coast vibe where everyone feels like a local by sundown. It’s the perfect chance to turn up, show support, and be part of a cause that hits close to home for far too many Australians.
All proceeds go directly to Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, helping fuel vital research and support programs that change lives. Whether you’re there for the tunes, the good vibes, or the simple act of giving back, Rock the Beanie is shaping up to be one of the feel-good highlights of the summer.
So grab your mates, grab your beanie, grab your dancing shoes, and get to Aireys Pub. Great music, great beer, great cause. This is exactly what the pub was saved for. Come for the tunes, stay for the good vibes, leave knowing you’ve made a difference.
The event kicks off a summer of events at Airey’s pub with the weeks following seeing an eclectic yet completely entertaining mix of music and comedy rolling out. 13 December sees Rhyley McGrath take to the stage, then 19 December local laugh-maker Jeremy Dooley steps up, chased by Gabby Steele the following night. The year rounds out post-Christmas with Atomic Entourage on 27 December and Stage Door bringing you into the New Year on 31 December. January is also stocked full of weekend fun with Mt Pleasant (3 January), Lois Lane (9 January), Spoonful (10 January), King 7 & TCB Band (17 January) and Carlos Danger (23 January), taking us into the next public holiday.
Book in a visit to the iconic lighthouse landmark but stay for the shared fun and great feeds at Aireys Pub.
