Ballarat International Foto Biennale is now taking submissions for GradFoto 2024

Start your career in photography with an accolade to your name as GradFoto 2024 returns to the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.

Entries have officially opened for GradFoto 2024. As part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale program, GradFoto 2024 celebrates the creative excellence of graduating students and emerging contemporary artists from selected institutions in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand whose artistic practice includes photography.

Following its inaugural launch in 2020, GradFoto continues to showcase the high calibre of photographic work by up and coming graduates to new audiences across Australia and beyond, creating connections for them as they begin their artistic careers.

Encouraging creative input and contribution from across the Trans Tasman, GradFoto 2024 is free to enter for all applicants to determine the best of the best photographic work. Up to 20 finalists will be shortlisted and have their work exhibited online in the GradFoto 2024 exhibition. A judge will award one cash prize of AUD $1,000 to the overall winner. Another finalist will be awarded one cash prize of AUD $500 for the People’s Choice Award, as voted by the public throughout the GradFoto 2024 exhibition.

To be eligible to enter the Ballarat International Foto Biennale GradFoto 2024, you must:

• have tertiary-level graduate qualification from selected institutions
• be aged 18 and over,
• be living in Australia and New Zealand.

The submitted series for GradFoto 2024 must:

• Be a series of photographic works that have been substantially produced by photographic means, including analogue and digital photography, collage and mixed media
• Be accompanied by an artistic rationale
• Be comprised of 1-20 images
• Be a finished project
• Have been executed and/or resolved within the graduate year leading up to the deadline for submissions, that is after 1 January 2024
