Hi there everyone! I hope you’re all having a swell week – I’ve just finished celebrating my birthday, so I’m writing this column slightly hungover and quite content. Unfortunately, the twin terrors of life and responsibility have come rampaging back from their brief holiday to remind me there are, in fact, things that I should be doing – primarily, reading comics!

When you hear that a band uses one guitar to create the sound of three, you know they’re worth investigating. King Of The North is a two-piece band, featuring guitar, vocals, and drums, but in this band, the guitarist Andrew Higgs plays lead, rhythm, and bass – all at once. Their third album, Get Out Of Your World, is a rock bass jam akin to Wolfmother, with a powerfully insistent tone.

When it comes to the release of their new EP Haunt, local lads Residual know they’re on to a good thing. However, the success of their dynamic new single ‘All For You’ came with a heavy price. “It’s a break-up song,” says guitarist Andy Rankin. “I’m not sure how much [front man] Sam has given away in other interviews, but the song is basically about him giving his all to a relationship that he knew was going to end”.

Melbourne’s Indie/electro-pop duo Gypsy & The Cat are set to release their third album ‘Virtual Islands’ on Friday August 5. The album contains 10 tracks including some that have been pre-released tracks. One of those, ‘Life’, got to #1 on the Hype Machine main chart during the first week of July.
