Hey there gang! Another week, another issue of Forte, and as usual, another Pulp for you all to get stuck into. It’s been a busy few weeks for me; courtesy of the wonders of tertiary education I’ve been sequestered away in my study frantically revising for exams. At the time of writing I’m about halfway through, so I’m definitely looking forward to the break so I can actually read some damn comics. We all know counting calories is so 2011. If you want to get serious about the food you put in your mouth and your training, you need to be counting your macronutrients. It’s all good to count cals and think you’re cruising along nicely, eating garbage and doing laps of the office to burn it off with your mobile phone app open in hand, but simple fact is, calorie counting is not guiding and encouraging a balance of the right foods.

Large DC powered amps, requiring huge car batteries to run. Blues, funk and soul reign supreme on the Justin Yap Band’s newest album, Let Love. In the years since the band’s 2013 debut, Long Way From Home, the lineup has gone through numerous changes. Yap remains on lead guitar, while keyboardist Ollie Wolfe, bass player Ben Wicks and vocalist Nardia Brancatisano complete the current incarnation. Solidifying this lineup has allowed Yap to progress beyond the project’s previous release.

There’s something so comforting about settling in for the night, popcorn in hand, as the credits begin for what’s set to be a great film. The Movie Garden in Ballarat is all about this experience, and has added a few extra in for good measure, with No Lights No Lycra dance nights held at the venue and vintage arcade games for a different kind of entertainment. We spoke with one of the organisers Beth Lamont on how the event came to be, her favourite movie picks and the cinema experience in general.

After a state wide search to find the regional town to host White Night, Ballarat was crowned the victor. The night will be held on Saturday, March 14 and bring the town to life through installations across town on walls, in laneways, streets and parks.
