2015 was a considerably busy year for Garbage, who were celebrating the 20-year anniversary of their iconic self-titled album. The record’s home to a handful of tracks that remain staples of pop and alternative radio to this day. In conjunction with a deluxe reissue, Garbage ventured out on a relatively brief tour in which they exclusively played material from the early years.

At its core poetry is a form of expression, release and for discovering the inner most elements of who you are, and also, as the trio behind lowercase poetry have soon found, it’s also about connecting with others.

The ABC’s latest drama series Cleverman was heavily-hyped in the lead-up to its launch last week (new episodes air Thursday nights at 8.30 on ABC1, or you can catch up on iView), and going by the first two episodes the hype was pretty much justified. But it’s been interesting to read the difference between local reviews (where everyone loves it!) and ones out of the US (where it’s seen as ok, but not something that stands out from a pack dominated by various low-key UK supernatural and SF series).

If there’s something that clears of Sam Brittain’s release, is its seamless nature, weaving from the intro to ‘Underground’ and right throughout the remaining 13 tracks effortlessly. In part it’s credit to Brittain’s honey-toned voice and secondly due to the clever layering and arrangement of the keys, guitar and drums. Each song is textured and much more complex than it may seem at first listen.
