From the mastermind of chemical engineer-turned-distiller and Haiver Spirits founder, Matthew Anastassiou, the now Victorian distillery is turning tea into a trendy new taster, taking from the flavour profiles of tea but adding a lightly carbonated kick.
Anastassiou explains. “I’ve always loved iced tea and wanted to create a boozy version that was just as refreshing but with a crafted edge.”
“Unlike what’s already available, instead of simply blending tea with spirits, I’ve brewed it on a beer base. This was an intentional move to give the product a silky, full-bodied mouthfeel that feels much closer to real iced tea – crisp and refreshing.”
Launching with two flavours initially, the proudly Victorian produced product is specifically designed with the light drinkers in mind. The two flavours are an accessible, fruity entry for drinkers, perfectly positioned for the warmer weather. You have Summer Peach – bright, juicy and sun-ripened with hints of nectarine and citrus blossom. The palate bursts with fresh peach juice, balanced by a delicate tartness and a clean, fruity finish. And then there is Tropical -bursting with pineapple, mango and passionfruit, layered with creamy coconut and lifted with a zesty lime finish. Vibrant and fruit-forward, it leaves a refreshing, sunny aftertaste.
The Haiver Spirits Hard Teas are packaged in 330ml cans at 4.5% ABV (one standard drink), with a price point that is too good to refuse, coming in at $26 per four-pack.
The first release will be available direct from Haiver Spirits website, with limited stock also reaching select retailers.
“Haiver has never been about doing things the conventional way,” says Anastassiou. “We wanted to create something that feels new but also instantly familiar. Like the iced tea you know and love – just slightly carbonated and a little boozier.”
This release builds on Haiver’s reputation for experimentation and flavour-led products, following its celebrated use of vacuum distillation techniques in gin and vodka. The brands premium products are unlike anything in the Australian market.
