As an event that thrives on the principles of inclusivity, connection, and collaboration, the Festival has quickly earned a reputation for not just showcasing talent but for fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas. Founder and Director Corrie Perkin describes it as an opportunity for people to come together, reflect, and spark new ideas. “Writers festivals are extraordinary and wonderful opportunities for people to connect, listen, discuss ideas, share knowledge, and be together,” says Perkin. “Our mission is clear: we want to bring people together in a safe and mutually respectful environment, and we want to introduce them to some of Australia’s greatest thinkers, leaders, and storytellers.”

The festival’s impact extends far beyond the event itself. As a not-for-profit cultural organisation, SWF operates year-round, hosting literary discussions and talks across the Mornington Peninsula. It serves as a beacon for creative expression, intellectual inquiry, and the celebration of Australia’s vibrant literary landscape.

A Stellar Lineup of Guests

The 2026 SWF will feature an exceptional roster of authors, thinkers, journalists, and community leaders, spanning an impressive array of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, journalism, politics, and the arts. Confirmed literary guests include celebrated authors John Boyne, Niall Williams, Geraldine Brooks, Sofie Laguna, and Heather Rose. Poets and storytellers such as Evelyn Araluen and Jock Serong will also take the stage, enriching the festival’s diverse literary offering.

In the realm of non-fiction, high-profile contributors include philosopher and writer AC Grayling, investigative journalist Sarah Wilson, and former prime minister Tony Abbott. The festival will also host renowned community advocates such as environmentalist Bob Brown, educator Stephanie Alexander, and political commentator Andrew Denton, among others.

Journalists of national acclaim, including Annabel Crabb, Paul Kelly, Niki Savva, and Louise Milligan, will engage in lively discussions, offering attendees an inside look into the world of Australian journalism and political reporting. The festival will also spotlight the artistic contributions of performers and creatives such as Brian Nankervis and Rebecca Barnard, whose work spans music, storytelling, and radio.

An Atmosphere of Thoughtful Dialogue

The Sorrento Writers Festival is not only about hearing from authors—it’s about conversation. Moderated by some of Australia’s finest interviewers, including Jason Steger, Virginia Trioli, and Michael Cathcart, the Festival prioritises engagement, with discussions that are both stimulating and respectful. The Festival’s emphasis on intellectual exploration will culminate in the prestigious Barry Jones Oration, which will be delivered by Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty AC.

A Not-For-Profit Legacy

Sorrento Writers Festival is committed to fostering cultural and intellectual exchange throughout the year. While the four-day festival is the event’s focal point, the organisation continues to offer literary discussions and educational events in the wider Mornington Peninsula region, enriching the local community with an ongoing celebration of the written word.

Ticket sales will open in late February, with the full printed program available in early March. The Festival’s organisers are hopeful that this year’s event will be the largest yet, bringing together authors, thinkers, and audiences to celebrate Australia’s rich literary heritage.
