With bistro foods and disco moods, Renard has a vibe that is contagious.
As clever, sleek and playful as its namesake, Renar being French for fox – a playful homage to the space’s former mispronounced nightclub title, The Faux Social Club, Renard brings together elegance in design, creativity in cocktail and food craftsmanship, and vibrance in atmosphere. It earned them number 45 spot on the Boothby’s list of 50 Best Bars in Victoria, relisted for a third year running.

Proudly independently owned and operated by Ballarat brothers Teddy & Louis, the vision for Renard was to create an elevated art deco designed hospitality hotspot where you can gather for a quiet, classy cocktail during the day and dance your socks off in the evening. Enlisting local Ballarat interior designer Genevieve Wallis, whose growing hospitality portfolio includes Lola and Ragazzone, the brief tapped into emeralds, curved lines, and beautifully textured materials including their green velvet upholstered booths and terrazzo bar bench top.
The devil is in the detail when it comes to Renard, and not just in design. Their menu is impeccably curated to deliver the highest quality items. The venue boasts a selection of independent Australian spirits, as well as local minimal intervention wines, with an ever-changing seasonal food and cocktails list. Every day from 4pm – 6pm, you can indulge in Tappy hour where cocktails are $15 and tap beer pints are a cool $10. Pair it with Pre-Dinner platters of either a Cheese and Charcuterie Platter for $22, or a Prosecco and Pet Nat Bottles for $45. In addition a chef’s selection is available for $45pp which includes an entree, shared main, and dessert. Cocktails are $16 under this package – the perfect pairing! You’ve got flatbread, chicken schnitzel, fried chicken, steak fries, porchetta and so much more to warm up with. The venue also collaborates with fellow local food spots for kitchen takeover with everything from pizza to Turkish cuisine.
By night, the dancing shoes come out as DJ’s take the night away with wax on and wax off. The overhead disco balls shimmer, the lights dim for added ambience, and the drinks are in high rotation.
Renard bridges the classy day time catch-up with the looseness of the night life for what can be described as good vibes only.
