Entering Roy Hammond is an ethereal experience in itself as the overhead theme continues inside with hanging steel cages and flowers in vibrant pink and white, playing into the hospitality haven’s Korean origins. A spirit shelf runs from floor to ceiling behind the bar, lined like a library of storybooks. It’s precisely the point of Roy Hammond, with owner Brian Taylor crafting a space for sharing stories and making memories.

Pairing impeccably with the leading meal is the hero companion in the form of liquid gold. With a wide array of spirits from across the globe, including a staggering selection of more than 100 gins, the drinks menu is designed to elevate the palette of the Asian fusion food. They have nine G&T’s on offer using fellow Ballarat hospitality gem, Grainery Lane’s distillery flagship range. The namesake, Roy’s G&T is a winner for its delicate blend of Grainery Lane London Dry Gin, Fever Tree Indian tonic, lemon, dried juniper berries, and rosemary, whilst the sweetness of the Lychee’s Lift is a regular favourite. An extensive margarita menu, cocktail curation, including mocktails, and Roy’s Spritz showcase the spirit selection, with names nodding to pop culture moments such as the 50 Shades of Elderflower, Mother of Dragons and Strawberry Fields. Wine, tap beer and whiskey round out the offering.
