Now in its second year, this dazzling cocktail event has quickly become one of Geelong’s most sophisticated and talked-about social fundraisers – a night where glamour meets purpose, and where every ticket makes a difference. In a continued mission to support the research into dementia, the Forget Me Not Ball is spearheaded by a committee of locals and run in support of the Barwon Health Foundation.
Last year’s inaugural event saw the Forget Me Not Ball raise an incredible $64,000, establishing the Forget Me Not Geelong Dementia Fund at the Barwon Health Foundation. Every cent raised goes directly to supporting dementia research and clinical trials in Geelong, in partnership with Barwon Health and Deakin University.
So far, the Fund has directly supported the establishment of a $30,000 team-based grant for multi-disciplinary dementia research at Barwon Health, and a $15,000 individual grant supporting Masters-level, PhD, or trainee researchers working in partnership with Barwon Health.
Zoe Waters, Executive Director, Barwon Health Foundation says, “The Barwon Health Foundation is delighted to have established the Forget Me Not Dementia Research Initiative. We are so grateful to this group of local people who are putting their efforts into fundraising while also supporting parents living with dementia or suffering the grief of losing a parent to the disease. We are proud to provide them with the structure to make a difference locally through our Foundation.”
This year the initiative has also launched a limited edition t-shirt and cap with 100% of the profits going to the Dementia Fund. Additionally those wanting to contribute but unable to attend the event can make a private donation or bid on the silent auction prior to the event.
