The Royal Geelong Show rolls into town

Year after year, the Royal Geelong Show lures families and friends down to the Geelong Showgrounds in Breakwater for four days of fun. Their 2025 edition is no different.

Running from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 October, the Royal Geelong Show offers a diverse and dynamic program of entertainment, interactive activities, and educational experiences. The hair-raising rides and zesty showbags are just the tip of the thrill. Across the showgrounds, free family-friendly activations are the main appeal.

Keep up to date with what is happening in and around regional Victoria here.

Staying true to the 171 year tradition of Victoria’s largest regional show, Royal Geelong Show spotlights our Australian and local agriculture industry across displays and competitions. From shearing competitions to poultry parades, showjumping and farm animal encounters for the kids, animals are a major attraction on the showground map. The Hall of Agriculture is a must visit during your excursion around the grounds for all of your horticulture and fodder enjoyment.

Another aspect of the agriculture appreciation is the The Vintage Machinery Display which honours the vehicles and engines of days past, boasting an impressive collection of steam and oil engines, tractors, and implements. Take a tour around the big engines that helped to keep our farming industry running.

Whilst cattle will be judged inside the agriculture domain, another form of beef will be competing for a title outside. Geelong’s home of strongman, powerlifting and strength training, Strong Geelong will be holding a strength competition. Witness the dedication of members of the South Geelong gym as they try to flex their power.

Also in the competition realm, is the wholesome homewares and crafts corner. Homecraft offers a vast array of classes for exhibitors in cookery, arts and crafts, horticulture, woodwork, photography, and woolcraft, with submissions judged on skills and the detail of their crafting. A new category has been introduced to the Homecraft house this year, bound to delight the drinkers! The Royal Geelong Show has launched a Brewing & Beverages section. Home brews are the heroes of this category with classes across beer, cider, mead and any other brewed or fermented drink. With Geelong recognised for impeccable craft breweries, you might just stumble across your new favourite beer brand!

With community being a key component of the Royal Geelong Show, another returning favourite display is the School Competition. Artworks from local primary schools around the region will be showcased, whilst the School Band competition gives young performers a platform to present their music talents. Try to find the works of friends and family at these exhibitions and discover the next big voices in music.

The adrenaline activities are not just reserved for the rollercoasters and catapulting carnival rides. The Main Arena is alive with exciting entertainment. This year the Royal Geelong Show welcomes Australia’s number one stunt driver, Matt Mingay, in his Hot Wheels car. Expect burnouts, drifting, and Fast and the Furious style stunt work from Mingay. The professional sports athlete is a star, having worked with Supercars, Harley Davidson, Castrol, GoPro and General Motors to put on death-defying displays. His current Hot Wheels collaboration sees him manoeuvre his toy car modelled vehicle in ways that will make your jaw drop! Another heavyweight name added to the program is internationally acclaimed horseman, bush poet and entertainer Guy McLean. McLean taps into the heart and heritage of Australian outback life, bringing the Royal Geelong Show back to its roots through story.

Live music and dance performances are priority pieces of the Royal Geelong Show puzzle, spread out across the 35 acre grounds. Around the grounds you will also see circus elements, and the kids area is also another exciting feature for families. The zone welcomes Bubble Muffin to do children’s cooking shows, getting your little ones keen to get creative in the kitchen.

The event culminates in a magnificent display of fireworks on the Friday and Saturday evenings, lighting up the Geelong night sky and sending off a big weekend.

Whilst the thrilling rides, the joyous games and the take-home treasure of the showbags are a major drawcard of the show, the free aspects inside the Royal Geelong Show are the backbone to the lasting legacy of the annual event.
