The 2024 vintage of Silent Way’s Pinot Noir. It’s a fitting choice for Wine Window in regional Victoria’s music magazine, given the wine label takes its name from one of the greatest albums of all time by Miles Davis; a favourite of winemaker Matt and his wife, Tamara Grischy. Grischy has outstanding wine making pedigree, having worked at iconic wineries such as Grosset, Brokenwood & Nautilus, as well as being the head winemaker at Curly Flat.
Matt and Tamara purchased the Kilmore based Quarry Ridge vineyard in 2007. They wanted to keep things small and focus on estate grown fruit to ensure their wines speak to the soils on which they are grown and the style of wine they want to drink. Their wines represent great value and are made with love and attention to detail.
This is a wonderfully aromatic Pinot Noir loaded with dark red and black fruit, peppered with spice and earth. There’s power there too, owing to the warm dry growing season plus silky smooth tannins. This wine is gorgeous now but will reward cellaring over the next 5 years. The wine paired beautifully with a simple meal of grilled eye fillet on a bed of sautéed rainbow chard.
You can pick this little fella up at a number of independent wine stores around Geelong: Bottles & Barrels, Wine Press, Nardi’s Cellarbrations Highton and Corks Crew & Wine Domaine.
