“We love warming up the hall on a cold Surf Coast night, and this year’s August and September line-up is going to do exactly that,” said Dr David Corbet, founder of The Sound Doctor and local GP.
First up on Friday 14 August, The Belair Lip Bombs bring their self-described “yearn-core” indie rock to Anglesea for their final Australian show before heading overseas for a run of dates across Europe and the United States.
The Frankston four-piece have spent eight years developing a sharp, hook-driven sound built on energetic rhythms, textured guitars, and the emotionally direct vocals of frontwoman Maisie. Their 2025 album Again was the first Australian release on Jack White’s Third Man Records, further cementing their growing international profile.
“The Belair Lip Bombs are the real deal, and catching them before they head overseas makes this a genuinely special occasion,” Dr Corbet said. “We think our crowd is going to absolutely love them.”
On Saturday 15 August, Eric D. Johnson brings Fruit Bats to Anglesea for a more relaxed, melodic evening. Johnson is widely known for his work with The Shins and as a respected indie songwriter with a long-standing solo career. Fruit Bats’ new album The Landfill, released on Merge Records, continues his reputation for warm, understated songwriting with strong melodic focus.
Fruit Bats shows are typically gentle, finely detailed, and emotionally rich, with a focus on clarity and space in the live setting.
“We have wanted to bring Fruit Bats to Anglesea for a long time,” Dr Corbet said. “Eric Johnson is the kind of songwriter who makes you feel like he is playing just for you. Having had him play last year as part of Bonny Light Horseman, we know this will be a very special show.”
The series concludes on Friday 25 September with Sydney psych-rock band The Lazy Eyes, performing as part of their Cheesy Love Songs national tour. The band has built a strong reputation for energetic, layered live performances that combine psychedelic textures with tight musicianship and a high-impact stage presence.
They have toured internationally, sharing stages with acts including The Strokes, Wet Leg and Djo, and are in regular rotation on triple j with tracks such as “Fuzz Jam”.
“The Lazy Eyes are one of those bands where you walk out of the show not quite knowing what just happened to you,” Dr Corbet said. “We cannot wait to see what they do with our crowd.”
The Sound Doctor continues to operate as one of regional Victoria’s most consistent live music presenters, bringing national and international artists to the intimate setting of Anglesea Memorial Hall on Wadawurrung Country. The series is supported by Surf Coast Events, Creative Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria.
“The response to this year’s program has been genuinely humbling,” Dr Corbet added. “We are a volunteer-run organisation in a small coastal town, and the fact that people are travelling from across the region to be here means everything to us.”
