Developed across seven years, The Wine Pourer’s Tales is an intimate exploration of love, loss, family, friendship and hope, while simultaneously pushing Wineshank’s sonic palette into adventurous new territory. Leaning heavily into layered guitar tones, open tunings and the expressive capabilities of the Roland VG-99, the album unfolds as a cinematic listening experience, filled with unexpected turns and deeply melodic moments.

The record’s lyrical world drifts between memory and imagination. Tracks such as ‘Roo Girl’ blur folklore and storytelling, conjuring vivid Australian imagery through abstract narratives and emotional nuance. Inspired by the sophisticated songwriting approaches of artists including Sting and Eric Johnson, Wineshank crafts songs that reward repeated listens, revealing intricate arrangements and thoughtful detail beneath their immediate warmth.

The result is a collection that feels both deeply personal and musically expansive. Drawing influence from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, Eric Johnson and Pat Metheny, Wineshank has carved out a sound entirely his own, one built on colourful chord work, expressive riffs and melodies that shimmer with vulnerability and atmosphere.

Acclaimed musicians have already praised the project’s depth and musicianship. Drummer Gerry Pantazis, known for his work alongside Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Marx, Larry Carlton and John Farnham, described the album as “a unique collection of songs showcasing diverse musicality and songwriting style”.

Bass player Roger McLachlan of Stars and The Souldiggers echoed that sentiment after contributing to the recordings.

“Shades of Steely Dan and Crosby, Stills and Nash come to mind. Really intelligent writing, arrangements and thoughtful lyrics. These are not your average three chord pop songs. They have substance and evoke wonderful emotions for the listener.”

At its core, The Wine Pourer’s Tales is a testament to perseverance, artistic evolution and the enduring power of melody. For Wineshank, the album represents not only his strongest work to date, but also a reminder that creative ambition does not fade with age — it deepens.

With its evocative storytelling, intricate musicianship and emotional honesty, The Wine Pourer’s Tales stands as a compelling new chapter from one of Melbourne’s most distinctive independent voices.
