Kicking off from early December, the initiative will see free travel for regional and metropolitan travellers on all train, tram, bus and coach services operated by the state on Saturday and Sunday. It includes all V/Line services both into Melbourne and between regional centres. The free fare offer will run until 1 February 2026, making it easy and cheap to head to events, shows, activities and explore towns throughout the summer including weekends during the summer school holiday period.

Whether you’re heading from Geelong to Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Warrnambool or up to Wodonga – this is a great chance to explore Victoria without having to incorporate travel costs. The initiative also coincides with the opening of the Metro Tunnel.

Premier Jacinta Allan says “We’re saying thank you Victoria – with free PT every weekend this summer. Everyone, Everywhere, every weekend, until 1 February.”

All services will run fare-free from first to last every weekend during the period. No myki tap on is required, and reserved seats are also included in the free service.

Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams adds, “Regional Victorians can enjoy free weekend travel to the city, but also between local towns. You can head to Melbourne for an event, or take a short trip to a nearby regional centre for a market or lunch with friends. It’s all free.”

The weekend offering also aligns with major events on the state’s calendar including the Boxing Day Test, New Year’s Eve, and the Australian Open. You can also make the most of travel to our celebrated coastlines with the PT services.
